Allen Karns and team recognized as 2025 AWS Champion for excellence in education AI innovation

Allen Karns, chief AI technology officer for Vanderbilt University’s Amplify GenAI Innovation Center, has been named a 2025 Amazon Web Services (AWS) Champion by the Center for Digital Government (CDG) and the Center for Digital Education (CDE).

Karns and his team were recognized at the AWS IMAGINE: SLG/EDU conference in Chicago July 28-30 for their success in bringing Amplify GenAI – an open-source enterprise platform – to higher education and other institutions, as well as their collaboration with other schools to inspire leaders.

“I’m grateful for the recognition, as well as the partnership from AWS,” Karns said. “They’ve been instrumental in supporting our efforts as we continue to develop Amplify, as well as in connecting us with other schools as we try to build an open-source generative AI platform for higher education.”

The annual CDG/CDE AWS Champions Awards program honors organizations that demonstrate exceptional leadership in using cloud computing to deliver better, faster, and more inclusive services in the public sector and education.
