About
Dr. Helen (Yingxiao) Kong is an Assistant Professor of Practice at Vanderbilt University’s College of Connected Computing, where she also serves as Immersion Coordinator at CCC and faculty advisor for the undergraduate Honor Council. She teaches undergraduate and graduate courses in data science, programming, machine learning, deep learning, and Generative AI, and mentors students through independent studies and immersion projects.
Helen earned her PhD and MS in Civil Engineering from Vanderbilt University, where her research focused on leveraging machine learning and deep learning models to improve aviation safety and manage risk. She also holds a BS in Engineering Mechanics from Tianjin University. Outside of teaching and research, she enjoys playing the flute (as an enthusiastic beginner), gardening, and walking a lot.
